We now have a new “automated” Crimewatch mailing list. Instead of handling the list as addresses on a personal PC, we’ve begun using a mailing list feature that comes along with the web hosting package the neighborhood association uses. We’ll be able to send information to you more quickly than before.

There are instructions below for subscribing addresses to the list. All you have to do is send a message to the subscribe address from the e-mail you wish to use. This is useful in case you change internet providers – such as the InsightBB to Comcast change many of us are going through – or if you want to add your work address, etc. Feel free to share this with others.

When you send your request for list membership, you will receive a reply from the server asking you to confirm your request. This double “opt-in” makes sure someone else doesn’t use your e-mail address to sign-up and confirms you used the correct address. If you mistype, you won’t get the confirmation and consequently no messages. Just try again. This will also help ensure that we only have valid e-mail addresses in the system which will help out with managing the list over time.

To somewhat keep the membership in the list to interested individuals and to help block spammers, the membership request is moderated. This just means that I’ll have to reply to a message to finalize your subscription. Please include your name, address and maybe a phone number if you can in the request.

Similar to the subscribe request, you can drop off the list at any time by sending a message to the unsubscribe address. This also should be confirmed – to keep someone from trying to remove you from the list involuntarily. You can use this if you are no longer interested in receiving these mailings.

If you have any list-related issues, you may send them to crimewatch-owner@northfieldestates.org. This lets me get those messages and handle them directly. This is different from the list. Messages intended for the list, which is still going to be limited to that which is related to Crimewatch, safety and similar information of interest to NFE and Fishers residents, are sent to crimewatch@northfieldestates.org. This is also moderated. I will make sure anything sent to the list, i.e. intended for all residents, is appropriate before releasing. This will also prevent “reply-all” errors, messages sent to one individual, etc. as I won’t allow those through.

You can send a message to the “help” address at any time to have the list of “commands” (special addresses) sent to you.

For addition or removal of addresses, the server will send a confirmation message to that address. When you receive it, simply reply to it to complete the transaction.
